It was 1995 when IKEA made its debut at Milan Design Week, presenting to the world – in the very city considered a temple of design – the revolutionary concept of Democratic Design: a philosophy that combines form, function, affordability, quality, and sustainability. Now, 30 years later, from April 7 to 13, IKEA returns with a brand-new exhibition and one of its most iconic collections, hosted at the Tenoha space on Via Vigevano 18. Throughout the week, visitors will be invited to take part in interactive experiences that explore the principles of Democratic Design and witness the world premiere of the new STOCKHOLM 2025 collection – a series of high-quality Scandinavian design products that are both collectible and accessible. In a second area of the venue, titled "Do Something. Change Everything.", IKEA will show how small everyday actions can create meaningful change. With a focus on sustainability and life at home, the exhibition highlights the Swedish brand’s ongoing commitment to inspiring positive daily habits. It will also showcase the steps IKEA is taking to make its products more sustainable, encouraging lasting changes in the way we live. The venue will be open from morning until night, welcoming a diverse audience: from design enthusiasts and music lovers to foodies and creatives. The week will be packed with events and activations beyond the exhibition itself, featuring performances by house bands and art collectives from Milan and beyond. Evenings will be open to all, with no registration required. Every day will include talks and hands-on workshops covering themes such as screen printing and flag making. Around aperitivo time, visitors will be able to join engaging conversations with Public Possession, a creative collective based in Munich. As always during Milan Design Week, the IKEA space will also be a haven for those looking to relax and enjoy good food. The menu will offer a delicious selection of affordable food and drinks, including the Smörgås Sensation – a 2.0 version of the Hot Dog Extravaganza from the 2024 edition. “Smörgås” is the Swedish word for “sandwich,” and this exclusive creation will be served throughout the week, bringing a taste of Scandinavia to the heart of Milan. IKEA’s presence at Milan Design Week 2025 will also extend beyond Via Vigevano 18. For the second year in a row, the brand will support The Glitch Camp, a project by the Istituto Europeo di Design (IED). This free urban campsite is designed for students from around the world coming to Milan for Design Week. IKEA Italia will provide each tent with a “perfect sleep kit” to ensure maximum comfort for the young campers. As a new feature for 2025, IKEA will also collaborate with IED students to design shared indoor and outdoor areas for the camp, furnished with second-hand furniture – reinforcing the brand’s commitment to sustainability and the circular economy.
