Ilkka Suppanen wins the 2006 Mathsson prize

At the age of 38, Ilkka Suppanen is today one of Scandinavia’s most famous designers. Already awarded “young designer of the year” (in Germany in 1997 and in Finland in 2000), Suppanen has now been chosen to receive the Mathsson Prize, organised each year by the foundation that holds the work and archives of Swedish design maestro Bruno Mathsson.

Founded in 1995, the clients of Suppanen’s studio include Artek, Cappellini, Lucente, Nokia, Saab. The reasons behind the jury’s choice were the way in which the legacy of modern Scandinavian design has been taken and developed together with contemporary technology.
