The ADI (Associazione per il Disegno Industriale) in Milan has always done what it can to curb and to remedy the situation. But a turn for the better could result from the most recent legislation passed by the European Union. Design made in Italy can in fact now rely on new means of legal protection better suited to the sector: such as ‘protection by registration’, ‘protection recognised by copyright’, and ‘protection recognised by new forms of law’.
The next step would be to make these opportunities as widely known as possible to those concerned: the designers and the makers. The first such initiative will be taken at the Milan Triennale on June 11 from 2.30 pm. Speakers will include some of the best-known experts on the issue, such as Vincenzo Scordamaglia (honorary director general of the EU Council of Ministers) who is an advocate of community reform.
