In the emotional chaos of a condition of perennial and self-justified alarmism, the exhibition “Art in the age of terrorism” represents an interesting group interpretation of a theme of burning current interest. Thanks to the language of art, it takes a broader look that moves away from the common cliché and becomes as such an exploration into the meaning of the term (political terrorism, social, mass media) and into the origins and necessities, causes and consequences in terms of ways of living, thinking and communicating.
From images of September 11 associated with the words, ceci n’est pas une pipe, that animate the series After the treason of images by Kendell Geers to the map of routes of political refugees in Australia (Migrant by Mireille Astore) or in England (Way from home by Misha Myers and Dan Harris), the concept of terrorism is examined by ten artists through games of detournement between sign and meaning, irony and denunciation, information and demystification.
