Around ninety pieces created between 1979 and 2001 give a complete picture of the artistic development of Enzo Cucchi, on display at the Centro Internazionale per l’arte contemporanea at Castello Colonna di Genazzano, close to Rome, in an exhibition which occurs exactly twenty five years after Cucchi’s first one man show in 1977.

The exhibition starts with a picture from 1978, “La pace delle piogge”, which marked his definitive move into painting, after having been absorbed with poetry for some time, which had distanced him from painting, an expressive means which he discovered whilst very young and was self taught (he was assistant restorer of books and paintings).

His style began to take shape at the end of the seventies with installations realised with a range of materials with the image sculpted, painted or drawn. Together with Chia, Clemente, Paladino, De Maria, Enzo Cucchi became a protagonist of the Transavanguardia, an artistic movement which achieved a notable success also abroad. At Castello Colonna will be shown historic works such as “Quadri di Terra di un Pittore”, large scale pieces such as “Eroici mari rossi” and “La Casa dei barbari” as well as his later works, up until today never shown in Italy, such as the “Rotoli del deserto”.
