The deconsecrated church of San
Silvestro will be hosting an exhibition on
this Portuguese architect until March 9,
2008. Byrne selected 12 works that best
represent his last 10 years of activity and
present them in the form of models,
images and videos.
The installation
consists of a platform that stands out in
the bare ochre space of the church, and
black parallelepipeds, softly lit with LEDs,
placed along the route to support the
exhibited objects, which seem to emerge
like small pieces of architecture in a night
landscape. The visitor is immersed in a
spatial experience that complements this
look at the work of Gonçalo Byrne, whose
international fame has been consolidated
over the last decade with a career marked
by steady development in operation
of mediation and synthesis between
reinterpretation of the great masters and
a deep awareness and adherence
to context. The exhibition is accompanied
by a catalogue published by Electa. Silvia Monaco
