Born in Mexico City in 1971, Derek Dellekamp operates in the intense setting of Latin American metropolises. In a constantly evolving urban fabric, he carves out design opportunities that are marked by compositional clarity and a capacity to express a sense of peace.
His recently completed residential building in the Polanco district, for example, is based on the idea of the internal courtyard with garden, a green oasis and a moment of respite for the three apartments that face onto it. If the exteriors are all about transparency, with extensive glazing that half-reveals the floor slabs, the interiors are given movement in section by three triangular cuts.
This intervention by the architect divides the domestic space into three double-height spaces, whose presence is underlined by cladding in a different material – a wooden skin that contrasts with the white render. Laura Bossi
