Libeskind’s Spiral not to be built

It has been made official that the scheme by Daniel Libeskind for the Victoria & Albert Museum in London will not be going ahead. Lack of funds, after the Heritage Lottery Fund refused to make a contribution of 15 million pounds (out of a total cost of 70 million for the works) as well as too much controversy regarding the project are the two reasons behind the decision by the museum’s directors to abandon the extension project.

The Spiral was part of a wider project to extend and redesign a number of areas of the London museum such as the garden, some of the galleries and the north and south courtyards. E.S.
