Winners chosen for Pentagon memorial

With much less emphasis and publicity with respect to the competition for Ground Zero, the competition to design a memorial for the Pentagon has also reached a conclusion. Unanimously chosen by the jury is the design by two young New York architects Julie Beckman and Keith Kaseman.

In their proposal, the 8 thousand square metre area of land set aside for the competition will be transformed into a forest of trees. Inside will be the memorials in the form of 187 benches (one for each of the victims), linear in form and almost suspended in air, complete with a light and a name.
