The first new infrastructure in the Ground Zero area will be accessible from August. Its designers are a young New York practice, SHOP Architects, threesome Sharples, Holden and Pasquarelli and it consists of a small covered pedestrian bridge which will link Battery Park City and the World Financial Center to the rest of Lower Manhattan, and that from Rector Street will cross West Street.
A pre-fabricated galvanized steel box truss system forms the structure, able to sustain a flow of 4000 people per hour.
