The building has been designed by Swiss architect Mario Botta in collaboration with Giulio Andreolli. At the heart of the new architectural complex which, situated between two eighteenth century buildings does not face onto the street – is a large circular piazza covered with by a steel and glass dome, from which the various entrances are accessed.
The underground level is dedicated to the twentieth century archive with the international study centre for Futurism and the library on the history of modern and contemporary art, whilst the first and second floors house temporary exhibitions and the permanent collection.
The opening exhibition, entitled “Il laboratorio delle idee”, will be on until April 2003 and aims to take the visitor of a journey through the collection of art of the museum.
