Mutations: événement culturel sur la ville contemporaine

Today more than half the world’s population is concentrated in urban centres and in twenty five years the number of people who live in cities will exceed 5 billion. New frontiers of communication have opened a space of interconnection without limits and globalisation has broken every barrier. From Mexico City to San Paolo, from Berlin to Bombay, from Bangkok to Los Angeles: the world has been transformed into a giant city. The “mutations” of the title, will be investigated over the course of an international rendez-vous dedicated to the contemporary urban condition. As well as the exhibition, a series of films, conferences and meetings, a site and a publication are also planned. The research takes its lead from the study and themes of the Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas (on the concentration of information systems, the advent of the virtual, the acceleration of processes which reconfigure the urban territory), but also the work of the philosopher Sanford Kwinter on the metropolital cities of north America and the Italian architect Stefano Boeri on European cities. The set design is the work of Jean Nouvel. until 25 March Arc en rêve, Centre d’architecture Entrepôt, 7 rue Ferrère, Bordeaux
