In the hills of Massarosa, a fine villa designed by Vaselli Marmi enhances Becagli travertine in a contemporary design that dialogues with teak, glass and metal.
A prestigious villa in Massarosa, Versilia, whose design was born of fantasy. The owner was strolling through the centre of Viareggio when they spotted the facade of an early Twentieth-century building complete with slabs of Becagli travertine. It was love at first sight, and marked the beginning of a search that led them to the source of this unusual type of travertine, in Rapolano, in the midst of the hills of Siena, and to a company, Vaselli, the current heir of skills passed down from generation to generation on how to treat and bring out the beauty of this material.

Having found the raw material, the construction of the villa, designed by Massimo Luporini, embraced its potential. Vein-cut travertine covers the facade, while cross-cut travertine has been used for the floors, giving rise to a monumental block of stone with contemporary lines that dialogues with teak, glass and metal, and blends into the green hills overlooking lake Massaciuccoli. The stone floors also lead inside, illuminating corridors and living areas through a careful selection of materials and large-scale formats. In full respect for the materials, the bathrooms have been furnished with Le Cave collection by Vaselli, with units with sides and doors in cross-cut Becagli travertine that blend in perfectly with the rest of the bathroom. With their attentive design and careful cutting, and their reconstituted slabs reflected by the cladding, the furniture seems to emerge from the wall surfaces as though they were one and the same. With a view to making the most of the splendid panorama, the design provided not only for generous windows, but also a swimming pool, again in Becagli travertine, with a relaxation area equipped with chaise lounges and whirlpool baths connected to a lane for swimming.
The villa in Massarosa thus stands out as an elegant jewel in travertine, taken from the quarries of Rapolano into the hills of Versilia and turned into a home where every space allows the material to speak its own natural language.
