When materiality shapes the identity of space

Undora® by Krion redefines cladding as an active design element: ultra-thin, flexible and sustainable mineral surfaces that interact with light, combining aesthetics, performance and fast installation for contemporary architecture.

Materiality and texture are the fundamental elements through which construction irrevocably defines the character of a space—an established fact that has become increasingly central in modern and contemporary architecture. Just consider what the pink slabs of Luis Barragán’s Clubes in Mexico would be if light interacted only with color, and not with the subtle vibration of their surfaces; or the “structural lace” of the MuCEM in Marseille by Rudy Ricciotti, if its dark concrete could not also be experienced through touch.
In an age of rapid transformation, the ability to redefine space swiftly and effectively, together with its sensory identity, has become a key priority.

This is the context in which Porcelanosa Grupo developed Undora®, a next-generation mineral surface system conceived to expand the expressive potential of cladding in contemporary architecture. Created under the Krion brand, it enhances the interaction between surfaces, volumes and light, turning perception into a core design driver. Ultra-thin (2–8 mm), lightweight and flexible, it comes as a continuous panel where texture and relief are not decorative effects but integral components of the architectural language. Stone, marble, terracotta, wood or textile references are reinterpreted to generate new material identities rooted in timeless archetypes.

Undora® is designed to meet complex project requirements, offering a high degree of compositional freedom. It can be applied to walls, ceilings, bespoke paneling and integrated furnishings, adapting even to curved surfaces and organic geometries thanks to a fiberglass mesh reinforcement. This makes it particularly suited to environments where continuity and fluidity are key spatial qualities.

Its dry installation system, based on direct adhesion over existing substrates such as masonry, drywall or ceramic, enables fast, clean and non-invasive interventions. These characteristics make it especially effective in renovation projects, as well as in retail, hospitality and public spaces where reduced downtime is critical. Its low weight (3–7 kg/m²) further simplifies handling on site and minimizes structural loads, expanding its range of applications without significant technical constraints.

Addressing contemporary challenges cannot rely solely on sensory and practical performance if a solution is to be truly considered contemporary. Environmental responsibility is an equally essential pillar, and with Undora® it is approached through the same processes that ensure the material quality of the product.
Alongside water-based binders, more than 90% of its composition consists of mineral components, while at least 50% comes from pre-consumer recycled material, including ornamental marble extraction waste from Spanish quarries and residues from in-house ceramic grinding. This approach reduces the use of virgin resources and promotes a circular economy model.
The manufacturing process, developed entirely in-house, combines industrial precision with a high level of craftsmanship: panels are formed on continuous 110-meter molds, where the reinforcement mesh is embedded and textures and reliefs are defined, before undergoing controlled structural stabilization, final finishing through high-definition digital printing and the application of a water-repellent protective coating.

The contribution to indoor environmental quality is both sensory and measurable: Undora® is also certified for fire resistance (Euroclass A2-s1,d0), compliant with REACH regulations and characterized by low VOC emissions.

As materiality regains a central role in shaping spatial identity and the experience of architecture itself, Undora® positions itself not only as an ideal solution, but also as a benchmark, demonstrating how such role is underpinned by a complex framework that brings together aesthetics, performance and responsibility toward both people and the environment.
