There is a precise idea behind Maistri's latest project: that the kitchen stops dominating the domestic scene. It will be presented during the week of the Salone del Mobile 2026 in the Milan showroom at Via Larga 4, Marea stems from a reflection on the contemporary open space and how the kitchen can integrate with the living room without becoming a dominant volume. The name is not accidental: the tide, with its alternation of energy and stillness, is the conceptual model from which the whole project starts.

The composition is developed on two distinct elevations, each with a distinct role. The higher countertop is the space for everyday action, the one where people cook, prepare, and work, supported by a structural counter available in all the finishes in the collection. The lowered base units, on the other hand, bring the kitchen to the sitting level, creating an area of rest and relationship where those who do not cook can stop, converse, stay. A seemingly simple distinction that radically changes the perception of space.

What is striking about Marea is the visual lightness it manages to give back. The kitchen counter allows light to pass through, the volumes dialogue without rigid separations, the cooktop integrates into the system without breaking the continuity of the surfaces. The result is a more open domestic landscape, where the kitchen does not end where the living room begins but tends to dissolve into it, almost naturally.

The system is designed to be flexible. The lowered base units are available for all the door models already in the catalog, in every color and finish variant, and the design dialogues without forcing with other Maistri collections such as Arena Mass and Giza. A kitchen that does not impose a style but offers tools: real maneuvering space for architects and interior designers working with very different living contexts.

Marea comes at a symbolic moment: in 2026 Maistri will turn eighty years old. From the artisan carpentry workshop founded by Silvio Maistri in the postwar period to a company capable of dialoguing with contemporary design, the path is long but consistent. And this new project is perhaps its most successful synthesis: not a formal invention for its own sake, but a concrete response to how people really experience the kitchen today.
