The design of energy in motion

The Power series by Itel reimagines portable energy, merging design, sustainability, and autonomy. Scalable and solar-ready, it makes access to energy a tangible and global value for the everyday, earning recognition with the German Design Awards.

In contemporary industrial design, energy is no longer merely a technical concern, it has become a true design territory, recognized across the disciplines as a priority theme. The Power Series is launched under the itel Energy brand of Shenzhen Transsion Holdings Co., Ltd. and is designed by YI YAO from the Product Department. This product is born from such awareness, merging portability and functionality into a coherent system. It reflects a vision of design as an enabler of everyday life, before being a generator of purely aesthetic value.
This system of portable energy storage units makes access to power a fluid, daily gesture, repeatable across diverse contexts while maintaining the same level of reliability.

The underlying design philosophy emphasizes lightness, modularity, and adaptability. Weighing only 3.2 kg and offering up to 100,000 mAh capacity, Power Go is tailored for personal, mobile use, while Power Go Pro and Power Rover extend possibilities with higher capacities suited to more complex environments such as schools, offices, or homes. Rather than a single solution, it is a scalable ecosystem. Multiple interfaces – AC, DC, and USB-C – along with fast charging up to 65W, allow simultaneous powering of multiple devices, effectively transforming any space into an energetically self-sufficient environment.

Materials play a crucial role in this vision of everyday life and technology. Recyclable components, like the silicone handle straps – which are both durable and gentle to the touch – are paired with a high-strength shell designed to withstand impacts, scratches, and harsh conditions. Durability becomes a concrete sustainability strategy: products designed for over 6,000 usage cycles reduce environmental impact, extending performance considerations into a broader life-cycle responsibility that prioritizes long-term reliability.

The Power series also stands out for its systemic approach to energy. Solar integration is a structural aspect of the design: compatibility with photovoltaic systems and charging up to 100W allows for intelligent use of natural resources, reducing dependence on the conventional grid. Energy thus becomes accessible even in off-grid contexts, positioning design as infrastructure, a bridge between technology, the environment, and human practices.

This adaptability is most evident at a global scale, embodying the principles of “design for all.” The Power series is engineered to deliver the same functionality in highly connected urban areas as well as regions with unstable electricity supply. In varied settings such as Africa, this design approach demonstrates its relevance, responsiveness, and capacity to enhance inclusion and quality of life.

International recognition, such as winning a German Design Award 2026 in the category Excellent Product Design – Energy, underscores the significance of this approach. The accolade honors not just a product but a vision: a design capable of uniting mobility, functionality, and sustainability within a coherent, replicable system. The jury highlighted the balance between refined aesthetics and robustness, emphasizing how design, durability and flexibility make the Power series not only an energy storage solution but a design benchmark for the sector.
The award validates energy design as a design of possibilities, a tangible connection between innovation and daily life, charting a path toward a more sustainable future in both consumption and living, reflecting the quintessential role of design in shaping how we inhabit the world, getting once closer to a possible textbook definition of its mission.
