The building designed by Foggo Associates has an unique semi-elliptical facade covered with Stopray Vision-60 glass by AGC Glass Europe.
The City of London, the very central financial district of the British metropolis, has seen the birth and growth of a series of iconic skyscrapers in recent years. This area has become a place of competition among the best architects of international reputation, with structures that combine technological innovation with aesthetic recognisability.
Alongside iconic buildings by Norman Foster, Richard Rogers and Rafael Viñoly, Foggo Associates recently completed the 70 St. Mary Axe tower. The building was immediately nicknamed the "can of ham" because of the unique shape of its imposing glass facade, with its semi-elliptical geometry.
For the main architectural element of the project, the glass facade, the London-based design studio chose a top partner: AGC Glass Europe, the European leader in flat glass production.
The ideal product for achieving the design objectives is Stopray Vision-60: a selective glass with high performance in terms of transparency and solar control, which maximises light transmission and reduces solar heat. Offering high levels of selectivity, this high-performance glass reduces lighting, air conditioning and energy costs, thanks to the combination of natural light, solar control and thermal insulation, while ensuring maximum well-being and living comfort.

Based on the specific needs of each architect, AGC suggests combining it with other products from the same range to find customised solutions for each project.
The 70 St. Mary Axe skyscraper is a clear demonstration of how aesthetics and high performance can coexist in the same project. For its thermal and energy performance the building has in fact obtained the BREEAM "Excellent" certification.
