Erica, B&B Italia’s bestseller outdoor system

The collection designed by Antonio Citterio for B&B Italia Outdoor evolves into a complete programme for open-air living: new solutions, finishes, and colours expand the possible configurations and reinforce the concept of outdoor living.

The UP Series by Gaetano Pesce, the Camaleonda sofa by Mario Bellini, and Charles by Antonio Citterio: B&B Italia certainly needs no introduction. Since its foundation, the company has built its identity on products that have become icons of contemporary design. It is precisely with Citterio that the brand has developed a long-standing collaboration capable of translating, over time, the idea of a “system” — a distinctive feature of the company — into complete, coherent collections that move seamlessly between indoor and outdoor.

Erica fits into this journey. Launched in 2017, it has gradually established itself as a bestseller in the outdoor catalogue. The collection was created to respond in a unified way to different open-air scenarios — from terraces to gardens, through to contract spaces and the nautical sector — with an elegant and recognisable language made of powder-coated die-cast aluminium frames, high-resistance polypropylene weaves, and a leg design that creates visual continuity among all the elements.

B&B Italia’s research, however, continues, and the latest evolution of Erica marks a further step toward the system dimension, expanding the range of furnishings, finishes, and textures. The first new feature is the curved sofa, conceived for more fluid and convivial layouts, accompanied by an articulated modular programme that multiplies compositional and design possibilities. These are joined by dormeuses, armchairs, and daybeds with high backs and integrated headrests — solutions that interpret outdoor relaxation with an increasingly architectural level of comfort.

The extension also involves the dining area and service furniture: tables and coffee tables with tops in natural teak or back-painted fused glass — in jade green, emerald green, and coral red — dialogue with new finishes for the frames, including cream white, aquamarine green, and olive bronze. The stackable sunbeds combine practicality with construction quality, while a renewed textile proposal, featuring coordinated stripes and solid colours, further increases the level of customisation.

By choosing to update an iconic collection, B&B Italia consolidates its vocation for reading contemporary needs and interpreting them in highly customisable collections capable of adapting to different styles and contexts, without any fear of losing its own identity.
