Ceramic surfaces for empathic design

The Florim collections become fundamental ingredients for the design of environments that meet the personal needs of their inhabitants. A selection of housing and hotel projects.

Floor surfaces, wall coverings and furniture are the elements that determine the character and atmosphere of a space, and thus also the moods and impressions of those who live in it. Materials and finishes, colours and patterns define a whole series of "sensorial" stimuli, mainly involving touch and sight (although sound engineers would object): a smooth, glossy surface, for example, can convey a sense of artificiality, but also of precision, cleanliness and modernity; a rough covering, perhaps with earthy tones, communicates authenticity and naturalness.

In contemporary interior design, the main trends are leading us towards tailor-made wellbeing both in the domestic environment and in the hotel industry. We increasingly speak of "empathic" design, i.e. studied to meet the needs of the individual. For more than 60 years Florim has been producing surfaces for all architectural, construction and interior design requirements, and thanks to its vast choice of products and solutions it follows this philosophy. In fact, we can say that the Florim collections can become the fundamental ingredient for various housing and hotel projects.

In the domestic sphere, the contemporary eclecticism of styles and the different day-to-day needs are echoed in the variety of Florim proposals. Several recently completed examples demonstrate this. From the elegant, luxurious and metropolitan atmosphere of a private residence in Huzhou, China, where different Florim collections can be found, to the relaxing and welcoming ambience of Villa Le Gradelle, which with the Sensi of Casa dolce casa collection, designed by Matteo Thun & Partners for Florim, finds itself in perfect harmony with the natural context in which it is set. Elegant spaces of informal luxury, with a layering of old and new: architect Gabriel Olivera used large slabs from the La Roche series to achieve this feeling in a private residence in Ibiza. The Industrial collection, which recalls the raw charm of cement, was used by Iosa Ghini Associati in the renovation of a 1960s villa in Forte dei Marmi, creating a continuous floor between the interior and exterior.

Among the recent hospitality structures that feature Florim-branded ceramic surfaces are the Executive Spa Hotel and Hotel Eala. Located in the heart of Emilia, the new Executive Spa Hotel has a "nostalgic" design, reminiscent of the Fifties, even if the technologies used for its management are highly contemporary. The marble-effect porcelain stoneware collections Les Bijoux de Rex, Étoile de Rex, Prexious of Rex and I Filati – all produced by Florim – follow this mood, between innovation and tradition. For the lounge area, on the other hand, the tactility of natural earth was chosen, expressed by the Sensi of Casa dolce casa line, designed by Matteo Thun.

Hotel Eala, an elegant structure that overlooks Lake Garda, presents a wide selection of Florim products, each one able to generate a different sensation and style: the Policroma collection by CEDIT (a brand of the Florim group) covers the starred restaurant inside the hotel, making the environment refined and lively; the delicate and neutral aspect of the Ardoise collection is perfect for the rooms of the wellness area; among the Florim products used for the interiors we also find I Classici di Rex, which infuses the space with great personalisation.
