In contemporary design, the boundary between indoors and outdoors is gradually dissolving. Terraces, patios, and gardens are becoming living spaces conceived with the same care traditionally reserved for interiors. It is within this context that CODE – Custom Outdoor Design Experience – was developed by BT: a system that interprets outdoor space as a fully realized architectural element, capable of combining formal rigor, comfort, and compositional freedom. The concept was conceived by architect Ivo Pellegri, who designed a modular solution intended to provide designers with a flexible, adaptable, and highly customizable tool. Rather than a standard, repeatable model, CODE is an open design platform created to engage with diverse contexts without imposing a dominant visual signature. Its identity is protected by seven European design patents, reflecting research that blends technical innovation with aesthetic sensitivity.

The structure stands out for eliminating the traditional vertical post, replaced by freely configurable aluminum slats. This choice allows for compositions that vary in size, proportion, and rhythm, adapting to the specific constraints of each project.

Customization also extends to color, with over six hundred available finishes that can either create harmony with the building or introduce a more distinctive statement. The system’s modular approach applies as well to roofing and enclosure solutions, offering protection and comfort throughout the year.

Indirect LED lighting is seamlessly integrated, with spotlights and perimeter strips that ensure the space remains usable in the evening hours. In this way, CODE takes shape as a true open-air room, suitable for residential, contract, and hospitality settings, expressed through an essential design language capable of fitting equally well within historic contexts and contemporary architecture.
