BBB: seventy years of excellence in Italian design

Since 1949, the history of BBB, a Made in Italy design icon, has been enriched with unique pieces, creating a diverse and versatile catalog that shapes contemporary living.

BBB, founded in 1949 during the height of Italian design research, quickly gained visibility thanks to its clear and recognizable identity, embodied in refined seating characterized by timeless formal elegance. But that’s not all. From its inception, BBB has masterfully interpreted avant-garde spirit by blending experimentation with tradition.

Today, BBB offers a broad and versatile catalog that gathers a variety of iconic elements of both Italian and international design, many of which have been awarded the Compasso d’Oro. These pieces open a rich dialogue on the meaning of contemporary living and its relationship with design.

Thanks to its expertise in capturing experimental trends and the legacy of the great masters of design, BBB has remained closely tied to the leading figures of Italian design and the Made in Italy ethos for more than seventy years. Its evocative series of pieces has earned a rightful place in the history of design. Starting with Domus founder Gio Ponti, whose 940 and 969 chairs represent a stylistic revolution that remains vibrant and relevant today, to Carlo Santi and Vittorio Prato, and more recent figures like Ilaria Prato, who moves from architecture to museums, fashion, and luxury and whose Polp 1 interprets the concept of modularity in upholstered furniture.

Adding to BBB’s journey is Bruno Rainaldi, with his timeless Sapiens metal bookcase system, which allows books to be showcased in unique, personal ways that enrich spaces; Enrico Davide Bona with Paso Doble, a folding chair made of beech plywood, recognized as the best product at the 2001 Salone del Mobile in Milan; and a young Marco Piva, who in 2001 presented Plan, an armchair that skillfully leverages wood curvature to provide an ergonomic and distinctive seat. Piva, today, serves as BBB’s Artistic Director, with a new collection inspired by the Italian Renaissance.

The BBB collection consists of chairs, stools, armchairs, and small tables in a modern style, yet always informed by the stylistic tradition that has defined Italian elegance and good taste. Among these, Plissè stands out, an armchair that recalls the Plan system but with a more mature awareness, attentive to contemporary materials and a timeless, classic style. Moreover, in its continuous evolution, BBB continues to welcome many other prominent figures in international design, such as Franco Poli, Paolo Favaretto, Marta Laudani and Marco Romanelli, as well as Harri Koskinen, Jasper Morrison, Renè Barba, Edy & Paolo Ciani, but also Serena Vinciguerra, Massimo Colombo, Edoardo Radice and Adriano Tolomei, just to name a few. Thanks to its work in technical re-editing and finishing, such as with Paso Doble and Polp 1, BBB’s products remain relevant and innovative, not just in form but also in their core substance. BBB stands as a true design house, a temple that inspires and shapes today’s elegant and functional living.
