Featuring a light reflection of less than 1%, AGC's innovative Clearsight anti-reflective glass was used for the new Cafmayer Gallery window in Knokke, Belgium.
The shop window is a shop’s traditional – and most effective – way of attracting potential customers and encouraging them to enter. It is a threshold that separates interior spaces from the street, and at the same time has to create a connection between inside and outside, between passers-by and the products on display. Although completely glazed, this surface can sometimes have an excessive and annoying reflection of light, which eliminates proximity and disturbs the gaze.
This is the case at the Cafmayer Gallery in Knokke, Belgium. Owner Oliver Cafmeyer tells about the transformation: “We decided in early 2020 to completely renovate the gallery because we wanted more visibility from the outside, so that passers-by could admire our artwork and realise how big our gallery was. The main objective of the renovation was to renew our south-facing façade. The reflection on the glass was so strong that people could not see inside.”
For the new Cafmayer Gallery window, Clearsight, an innovative magnetron glass from AGC Glass Europe characterised by a light reflection of less than 1%, was used, offering perfect transparency.

Clearsight, which traditionally finds its preferred location in museum display cases, has recently become popular for many other applications as well, including retail outlets, digital panels, transport, sports facilities and high-end housing, where the aim is to prevent unwanted light reflection to ensure better visibility.
AGC's innovative anti-reflective glass, which can be annealed or heat-treated, can also be transformed into curved glass or can be further enhanced with techniques such as screen printing and digital printing. Moreover, being able to guarantee both maximum light transmission ( 98%) and minimum reflection, Clearsight ensures a very high level of transparency, allowing a better view through the glass.
Oliver Cafmeyer confirms these qualities: "It was fun to see the reaction of the other shopkeepers. They asked us when we were going to install the new glass and we replied that it was already done! We reopened just a few weeks ago and we can already see the results: more passers-by stopping by and more people coming in. It is what we hoped for and it has come true!"
