Haute couture for the outdoors

A sartorial vision defines the Twist seating collection, now expanding beyond the boundaries of interior design to shape Cantori’s offering for en plein air spaces, alongside versatile concepts such as the Milton table.

Before being a status symbol, before anything else, sartorial artistry is above all an experience. It is the engagement of all the senses in perceiving materials, their pairings, their continuities and contrasts; those gestures that determine lightness or solidity, a flash of brightness or a play of shadow. It is about uniqueness, though not merely the uniqueness of the product itself, but rather the uniqueness of a vision waiting to be explored.
In design, “sartorial” comes to mean a research-driven way of thinking, capable of translating the singularity of craftsmanship into industrial production.

It is the spirit that has guided Cantori through 50 years of growth and experience in the world of furniture design, shaping true pillars of its identity such as the Twist seating collection, designed by Castello Lagravinese. The same spirit now pushes this very exploration into outdoor spaces, an experiment in extending an interior experience to the scale of landscape, translating the codes of indoor luxury into solutions that dialogue with architecture and environment, giving new meaning to conviviality.

The starting point for exploring these possibilities within the Twist universe naturally remains the collection’s defining formal and functional element: the weave of twisted bands that wrap around the metal frame in a fluid gesture, that sartorial gesture borrowed from haute couture, focused on creating a sense of three-dimensionality and movement. In the outdoor version, materials and finishes have been carefully developed to withstand natural elements without compromising comfort in any way. Stainless steel (304 or 316), technical finishes, artificial leather backrest bands and marine plywood seat, padded with draining dryfeel rubber: the living experience opens up to the outdoors.

The sartorial gesture is also the key concept behind another Cantori project completing this outdoor vision: the Milton table, designed by Luca Roccadadria. In dialogue with the Twist system, it establishes a natural harmony of visual languages. Its core structure consists of two stainless steel (304 or 316) bases, folded into a rhomboid section, ensuring that this sculptural experiment adapts seamlessly to diverse convivial settings. Designed for large spaces and contract environments, Milton can in fact extend up to 4.2 meters – seating up to 14 guests – thanks to an aluminum extension system combined with tops and additional surfaces available in glass, fused glass, or outdoor-ready ceramic.

Cantori’s outdoor ecosystem distills the defining gestures of contemporary Made in Italy design: deep roots in a centuries-old culture of art and craftsmanship, paired with a vision open to global dialogue – Twist has been selected as furnishing for the yacht of a renowned Spanish tennis player, and Philippe Starck has incorporated it into several of his projects – translating into products of strong iconic value, where culture meets manufacturing excellence, meticulous attention to detail, and uncompromising quality research. A sartorial spirit capable of transforming an idea of experience into the very shapes of living space.
