Glass with slanted metal strips or warm fabric panels: the composition of the two types of sliding door generates the fascinating and distinctive style of the Golden Gate collection, designed by Mikal Harrsen for ADL.
The topic of the boundary between indoors and outdoors and among domestic environments has again become much debated in architecture, especially in the post-pandemic period. The multi-functionality and fluidity of our homes, enhanced even more by digital innovations, is demanding a paradigm shift in interior design, with devices capable of creating connections rather than separating. For contemporary spaces, increasingly dynamic and flexible, it is essential to use furniture and elements that interpret today's life, combining functionality and aesthetics.
This trend is interpreted by Mikal Harrsen, a Danish designer based in Milan, who has designed a series of sliding doors for interiors for the Italian company ADL, which are at the same time capable of creating a dialogue between spaces, drawing new geometric tensions in rooms and characterising them with a refined and modern style.

Golden Gate is composed of two different types of door: a single glass panel with oblique slats intersects with a fabric panel available in different colours. The combination of these two panels generates a fascinating and highly distinctive style.
Mikal Harrsen explains his design vision, which is in line with that of the company: "As a designer, I live through visual impressions. For me, a design object is like an image to be developed: the creative vision is mainly captured through the senses. I believe that design is like a personal filter that I use when I define a physical form or an object for this vision."

ADL specialises in the design and production of sliding systems, large-scale bi-folding solutions as well as traditional hinged and flush doors. The wide range of types of openings that each system consists of, together with ADL’s high production flexibility, which allows aluminium to be combined with different types of materials – from glass to wood, stone and the most sought-after metals – make it possible to produce perfect custom-made doors that create connections between different parts of the house, both from an architectural and interior design point of view, meeting the needs of each person’s lifestyle and contributing to the quality of his or her well-being.
