Sun protection and insulation: energy for De Hooch

AGC Glass Europe, Europe’s leading manufacturer of flat glass, contributed to the construction of the prestigious De Hooch housing complex, designed in Amsterdam by MVSA Architects.

The Oud-Zuid district is one of the most sophisticated, stylish and luxurious quarters in Amsterdam. Here we can find museums of international renown - such as the Stedelijk, the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum - as well as the Vondelpark, the city's most important and famous park, the Willemspark boulevards and various streets dedicated to high-end shopping.

In this context is the De Hooch residential complex, a building with 28 luxury flats, designed by MVSA Architects. The eight-storey structure is characterised by an admirable play of light and lines of sight in which glass is the protagonist: the interiors are flooded with natural light and residents are offered a privileged view of the outside environment.

For the cladding of the facades, the architects chose a reliable partner capable of delivering excellent results, combining aesthetics and performance: AGC Glass Europe, Europe's leading manufacturer of flat glass. Specifically, AGC used a type of highly insulating solar control glass, the Cradle to Cradle Certified Bronze Thermobel Energy 72/38 (Ex Stopray Vision-72T).  Belonging to the internationally acclaimed range of magnetron coatings, it is capable of ensuring the highest level of brightness inside buildings and minimum heat input.

The glass chosen for the project offers excellent selectivity and a totally neutral appearance. With the possibility of curving or combining with other AGC products for further performance enhancement, it is a versatile glass that provides maximum comfort. The double silver coating combines an aesthetically pleasing neutral appearance, 72 per cent light transmission, low reflection and high solar protection (factor: 38 per cent).

The facade also includes iplus 1.0 insulating glazing, which optimises living comfort (keeping the cold out and the heat in) while at the same time ensuring the entry of a significant amount of natural light and optimal energy savings thanks to excellent insulation properties (Ug = 1.0 W/(m2 K)).
