A tribute to the biodiversity of the Italian landscape. Luminae′s lighting design reflects the complexity and values of the architectural design by Carlo Ratti Associati and Italo Rota Building Office.

The Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai is an architecture that showcases the best of Made in Italy and the Italian approach to contemporary challenges. It is an innovative project based on the concepts of reconfigurability and circularity of the building, from the conception of the structure to the construction materials used. The Italian Pavilion, designed by Italo Rota and Carlo Ratti Associati, has several dimensions: the most incisive, shown only when the construction site is completed, is that of a laboratory, where various excellences of Italian design and industry have made their ongoing experiments an active part of the built organism.

The ideal partner company for the creation of a scenographic and immersive lighting atmosphere is L&L Luce&Light, with its Ginko 3.0 projectors. The lighting concept designed by Lorenzo Bruscaglioni and Paolo Volorio of the Luminae studio reflects the complexity of the architectural project and contributes to the narration of the human relationship with the natural elements, the plant universe and the sun.

L&L Luce&Light products reinterpret the visual experience of light passing through leaves. This is created both with the shadows generated by the plants and with the use of a shadow filter integrated in the Ginko 3.0 fixtures. Natural and artificial light dialogue in a dynamic and ever-changing way: that of the sun varies during the day and with the oscillating motion of the ropes on the facade, while the control of all the lighting devices in the pavilion is managed with different protocols, DALI, DMX and Art-Net.

The functional lighting is designed to be fully integrated into the architecture of the Italian Pavilion, and for this reason the compact Ginko projectors were the most suitable. Ginko 3.0 fixtures with 13° optics and adjustable elliptical optics are fixed to the structure’s main pillars, their white finish rendering them practically invisible. Inside the exhibition area, Ginko 2.0 projectors, in a corten finish and with different optical apertures (8°, 17°, 47° and elliptical), were used to meet different lighting needs. Finally, Ginko 1.0 fixtures furnished with stakes are set among the vegetation. All the projectors use LED light sources with a high colour rendering index, a cool white colour temperature (4000K), and integrated honeycomb louvres to ensure high visual comfort.
