Getting inspiration from everyday objects, decontextualising tools and their functioning, interpreting and renewing common gestures: this is the beauty of design, a creative discipline that has always been closely linked to everyday life. In line with this approach is the work of Studio Habits, whose new Metrica lamp is inspired by the functioning of the rolling meter. The designers reinterpret the measuring instrument's characteristic tab used to extract the meter, which then retracts into its support.

The new lamps produced by Martinelli Luce also feature a sliding system with light modules. The "hidden" part with the light source can be easily pulled out of its housing by means of a lanyard. To increase the luminous intensity of the LED lamp, the luminous body just needs to be gradually pulled out, while to switch it off, simply push it down. This intuitive and playful mechanism is made possible by an internal sensor that reads the alternation of black and white located inside the mobile structure, automatically adjusting the brightness.

Keeping the concept unchanged, Studio Habits has worked on the types and sizes of the lamps to offer four different versions: floor, table, wall and recessed.

The floor version emits a diffused light in the room if you direct the light beam towards the wall, thus avoiding direct clothing. The model consists of a shiny black cylindrical body resting on a white circular base. The LED source can be easily removed from the body of the lamp by means of an elegant leather strap. Similar in composition but different in scale is the table version, whose soft light caresses everything around it, making it perfect for desks, for example.

The wall lamp and the recessed lamp share the same 360° rotation mechanism, which allows the light to be directed according to different situations and needs. If the wall version is a compositional element that characterises the environment, the recessed version is almost completely invisible: only the leather strap needed to extract the LED is visible.
