IED Rome explores the future of exhibition design

The Master in Exhibit Design trains professionals with an interdisciplinary attitude, capable of transforming a space into a communication device.

Exhibition design is a complex practice. It is a field that escapes disciplinary boundaries and requires a series of transversal skills and professionalism.

This area has been (and continues to be) a field of experimentation and freedom for many Italian masters, architects and designers, who take the opportunity of the exhibition to test different languages and techniques, to build "narrative spaces", i.e. capable of telling a story through the precise arrangement of works, information and suggestions.

With the master's degree in Exhibit Design – now in its fourth edition – IED Rome trains professionals to understand the transversal nature of the world of exhibitions and to transform a space into a communication device, making the most of new technologies.

On 6 July at 3pm, as part of the wider Master's Open Day programme, the learning programme will be presented with an online webinar (click HERE to register for the meeting).

Technology is an increasingly central issue in this world: in the era of social media and the hybridisation of physical and virtual space, the technical apparatus of an environment not only serves to make the communication of a message more efficient, but revolutionises the experience of the user, who can go from being a consumer of content to being an active component of the exhibition and a producer of meaning.

The Master in Exhibit Design investigates a wide and changing context, ranging from the museum to the trade fair, from the commercial space to the public square, from the white cube to the marginal space, and in which various "situations" can take place: not only exhibitions but new forms of relationship, interaction, play and immersive experience.

"Multifaceted and multiverse narrative space, exhibition design is an extraordinary challenge from an educational point of view, precisely because it has to coordinate different skills to make them thicken in a coherent way around the project. This is the principle on which the Master in Exhibit Design is based, with results that never cease to surprise us," says Alberto Iacovoni, Coordinator of the Master.

The Master's course promoted by IED Rome has a strongly laboratory and innovative character. It is only through experimentation that it is possible to stay in touch with a contemporaneity that runs faster than any attempt at formalisation.
