Fiandre Architectural Surfaces takes up the centuries-old tradition of Venetian terrazzo tiles to create technical porcelain stoneware slabs with 100% full-bodied technology.
There are materials that we can consider an essential part of the Made in Italy DNA, and which generate architectural landscapes that are extremely familiar to us. One of these materials is undoubtedly the Venetian-style terrazzo. It is so called because it was widespread in 18th-century Venice, although we can find examples of it already in Roman times. The master Andrea Palladio, official architect of the Serenissima, considered "excellent terrazzo as it is used in Venetia".
An innovative characteristic of terrazzo is its sustainability: according to tradition, it is obtained from a mixture of marble and crushed stone scraps, which are then mixed in lime or cement. This recipe, which may seem simple and poor, has resulted in the flooring of Venetian palaces and villas that we all recognise as masterpieces of Italian architecture.

The full-body technology makes it possible to reinterpret the Venetian terrazzo in both the surface and the body of the slab, with a stylistically perfect rendering. This type of technical ceramics responds effectively to the needs of high traffic environments, where exposure to stress is particularly intense, increasing the risk of wear. The surfaces produced by Fiandre are ideal for stations and airports, tunnels and shopping malls, public places and buildings, but also in private residences.
The material uniformity of the full-bodied slabs lends itself particularly well to work with visible edges: from the processing of the edge (rounded, cut at 45°, polished edge, bevelled...) to the central round cut or shaped by water jet according to the shape of your choice, up to surface work such as sandblasting and laser engraving.
With the slabs of the Il Veneziano collection by Fiandre Architectural Surfaces it is possible to replicate the decorations of traditional floors but also to carry out volume processing and the creation of furnishings and special pieces. The ISO-certified product, the result of collaboration between the Iris Ceramica Group and the Department of Chemistry of the University of Milan, exploits the photocatalytic properties of titanium dioxide combined with silver to transform a simple ceramic slab into an eco-active material with antibacterial, anti-viral, anti-odour, self-cleaning and anti-pollution properties.
Recent studies conducted by the Department of Biomedical, Surgical and Dental Sciences and the Department of Biomedical Sciences for Health of the University of Milan have shown that ACTIVE SURFACES surfaces are 94% efficient even against the Sars-CoV-2 virus (responsible for Covid-19) after just 4 hours of exposure to low-intensity UV light.
