IRIDE – Istituto per la Ricerca e l'Ingegneria dell'Ecosostenibilità (Institute for Research and Ecosustainability Engineering) is an all-Italian excellence that focuses on environmental engineering and rethinks infrastructures in an eco-sustainable way.

Global warming is becoming objectively more and more evident on our planet. These alterations are having a major impact on natural ecosystems, causing not only a loss of biodiversity, but also potential mutations at an economic level, which are needed to achieve a necessary rebalancing. Climate change represents a global challenge that requires a global response, and the only possible horizon is that of eco-sustainability.

Architect David Chipperfield, who was the guest editor of Domus throughout 2020, in one of his editorials writes: “We must be willing to be involved in a radical shift that gives priority to environmental and social initiatives over senseless commercial imperatives.”

This is why we need research and innovation structures in every domain (from infrastructure to design) that are capable of conceiving and planning actions that make the entire life cycle of projects eco-sustainable. Among the Italian excellences that follow these principles we can find IRIDE – Istituto per la Ricerca e l'Ingegneria dell'Ecosostenibilità. The environmental engineering company offers qualified assistance to organisations and companies in various sectors, developing innovative solutions and proposals.

IRIDE works alongside developers of infrastructure (airports, motorways, etc.) right from the early planning stage. This is a decisive moment in which objectives and strategies are defined, which are then translated into environmental, social and economic, as well as technical, terms. IRIDE takes care of the development of the initiative in all its phases: from the consultation with stakeholders and the territory to its implementation and operation.

A special feature of IRIDE is its great capability to integrate day-to-day operations with research and experimentation.

The Institute's services include environmental master plans, strategic environmental assessments, environmental impact assessments, sustainability certifications, support at the various competent authorities, and offering support in public debate.

IRIDE thinks and develops the infrastructures of the future: environmentally sustainable and socially resilient.
