Edison

History in a new light

Edison is working alongside Italy's major cultural institutions to create value for local communities throughout the country, following a common path towards sustainability and a more efficient use of resources.

On 26 December 1883 the Teatro alla Scala in Milan was illuminated for the first time by 2,450 electric light bulbs installed by Edison. It was an intervention that foresaw the significant role that the company was to play alongside the most important cultural institutions, supplying energy throughout the territory and to the venues most representative of international art.

“Highlighting the beauty of the country and preserving its cultural heritage is an extraordinary opportunity for Edison”, commented the Senior Vice President of Communication & External Relations, Cristina Parenti. “Collaboration with major cultural institutions allows us to put into practice efficient solutions for energy sustainability that are good for the beauty that Italy has to offer, guaranteeing the long-term maintenance of our historical and artistic fabric. We are particularly proud to also be able to contribute in this manner to building a sustainable future and to the handling of energy transition for the country”.

This is why Edison is ever increasingly collaborating with national excellence, supporting initiatives and rendering its competence as an important energy handler available. Evidence of this can be seen in the works carried out to increase efficiency at the Venice Biennale, in the Teatro alla Scala workshops situated in the ex-Ansaldo plant, the heart of the crafts section where the stage sets are created, or at the Cavallerizze in Milan, the ex-stables for the Austrian Garrisons which are now the home of the headquarters of FAI, as well as in the archive of the National Library of Brera.

If the first step towards energy efficiency lies in the understanding of how energy is consumed, Edison shows the way for a sustainable future through digital transformation, making use of the most evolved BIM techniques for the modelling of buildings, of Building Management Systems (BEMS) in order to optimise energy management, and the best IoT solutions for increasing the comfort and use of spaces.
