Jule Waibel: Raised

During Milan Design Week the German fashion designer Jule Waibel will present Raised, a collection of folded-fabrics-dresses born from the project of paper dresses Entfaltung.

Jule Waibel: Raised
Collapsible structures reflect how our world is constantly changing.
German fashion designer Jule Waibel’s response is to use folding as part of her design process.
A particular folding technique can transform simple sheet materials into three-dimensional objects, with the additional capability that they can expand and contract.

Inspired by Mary Poppins’ seemingly never-ending bag, she made a range of transforming objects for her collection Entfaltung which was made out of Tyvek, a lightweight water- and tear-proof synthetic paper. The project celebrates the beauty to be found between geometry, transformation and play. The collection was exhibited with the title “25 dresses for 25 cities” at Bershka Fashionstores all around the world.
“Initially I wanted to design each dress for each city, based on the country colors and patterns that the city is famous for. So I did that, but then I found too obvious to use the typical colors. I figured that the people must be bored to see the same style all the time (for example: the Russian folklore pattern are way more exciting for asian people and on the contrary, the asian fish pattern is more exciting for people in Moscow or Europe, etc).” explains Waibel.

Now Jule Waibel developed it further and made the collection out of fabric: a dress which changes its shape according to the movement of the body, an expandable bag and an umbrella all made of pleated fabric are the pieces of Raised collection.

Jule Waibel will show her collection at Milan Design Week in April at Ventura Lambrate, in the exhibition of her collective Form and Seek.
