Volkswagen finally unveiled the electric evolution of its iconic transporter Van, widely known as the Bulli, Kombi, or simply DW Bus.
It's all one could have hoped for the electric reboot of such an iconic model. The company says that the ID. Buzz is transferring "seven decades of Bulli know-how into the era of software and digitalization."
That entails a "Plug & Charge" technology, enabling the ID. Buzz to be charged easily with up to 170KW and bi-directional vehicle-to-home charging, which lets customers integrate the car into the home energy system.

"The ID. Buzz is timeless, sustainable, and yet also extremely functional – that makes it unique," says Jozef Kabaň, Head of Volkswagen Design. "The T1 – an icon of the 1950s – enabled people to gain mobility and freedom. With the ID. Buzz, we are transferring this T1 DNA to the present day and thus into the era of electric mobility."

The passenger version of the ID. Buzz sits five people comfortably. A larger version, with 6 or 7 seats, will follow later. The first commercial version, named ID. Buzz Cargo, is launching alongside the five-seater and has enough space for two euro pallets. Preorders for the new van will start in May, with Volkswagen aiming to deliver the cars in the fall. So far no word on pricing, but experts expect the entry-level ID. Buzz to cost between 35.000 and 40.000 euros.
