Carlo Ratti Associati wants Guido to bring you your cocktail. No, the well known innovation and design firm hasn’t hired Italian waiters to pivot into a catering business. Guido is robotic bar, mounted on top of a self-driving platform. The machine, which is still a concept, is supposed to roam the city (or, more realistically, big event venues) to deliver drinks to customers who ordered them through a dedicated smartphone app. To develop Guido, Carlo Ratti Associati has partnered with Makr Shakr, the global leader in the (relatively small and new) robotic bartenders market.
“Our company has always encouraged a paradigm of participation when it comes to making your own drink”, says Emanuele Rossetti, CEO of Makr Shakr.  “Now, what happens if you extend the same approach to the city? With Guido, we show how technologies can make cities more responsive, and ultimately more fun”. Last year, Makr Shakr’s robotic bartenders have mixed already more than 1.200.000 drinks through stations installed in Royal Caribbean’s cruise ships and in some selected Las Vegas Casinos.
