Foster + Partners unveiled a new office building at Battersea Power Station

The design aims to improve well-being thanks to informal spaces, the presence of greenery, and natural colors.

After the residential building Battersea Roof Gardens, Foster + Partners has unveiled 50 Electric Boulevard, an 18,580-square-metre office building within London’s Battersea Power Station complex. Located along Battersea Power Station’s main pedestrian path, 50 Electric Boulevard’s soft undulating form creates a varying floorplate, which provides maximum flexibility for its tenants and creates a building that can evolve to meet the future requirements of the workplace, as stated head of studio Grant Brooker.

To benefit from natural light and ventilation, each floor includes a cantilevered outdoor terrace and openable windows, creating a permeable, flexible, and healthy working environment. A communal rooftop garden offers views of London skyline and River Thames. Furthermore, a double-height pavilion with wide skylights and trees – called the Light Box – can host up to 240 people and aims to encourage employees away from their desks, such as other more informal and relaxing spaces in the building. The interior features warm-toned materials with spots of color, including wooden batten ceilings, copper, and red upholstery. Recent studies show how greenery and natural materials throughout the spaces bring positive benefits to the well-being of everyone.
