A flying luxury hotel powered by nuclear energy

A new concept called Sky Cruise explores the possibility of a futuristic “cruise” super-plane with nuclear-powered engines and space for 5000 passengers.

Sky Hotel is a concept for a futuristic flying vessel fitted with 20 hypersonic engines and capable of staying airborne for years at a time with zero emissions. The futuristic jet plane was designed by Tony Holmsten and re-imagined by Hashem Al-Ghaili as a super-luxury flying hotel, fitted with restaurants, suites, multiple panoramic decks, and enough space to host 5000 affluent passengers at a time.  According to the concept creators, on-boarding and off-boarding would take place thanks to regular jetliners landing and taking off from the top of the Sky Hotel itself.

Making the entire project even more bizarre, Al-Ghaili explains that the plane will be fully autonomous and controlled by an AI. At the same time, a nuclear fusion reactor on board would provide the power needed to keep the 20 engines going indefinitely.
Kudos to the designer for his unapologetically elitist imagination: of all the possible applications of clean fusion energy, a massive jumbo jet for ultrarich-only sky cruises wouldn’t have been our first idea.
