Milan keeps to change its shape. The Michelangelo hotel – built in the 1960s and decommissioned in 2020 – will be demolished starting this June and replaced by a 23-storey office and coworking tower, 93,5 meters high.

The project, called Mi.C, is part of a larger urban plan – conceived by Grandi Stazioni and the Municipality of Milan – which, in view of the Winter Olympics, will see the redevelopment of Piazza Luigi di Savoia and the surrounding area, recognized as high risk decay. The square will be made more welcoming for travelers and reconnected to the life of citizens through the restaurant dehors and initiatives such as the Mercato Centrale.

The plan – which will be completed by 2026 – also includes green areas, the rationalization of parking and the taxi area, underground car parks, the creation of a velostation, the reconstruction of the road surface, pedestrian paths, a play area for children and the positioning of street furniture. New trees will also be planted and to the 1350 square meters of redeveloped green areas, 900 more will be added.

Mi.C will respect the objectives of environmental sustainability, energy saving and circular economy. According to estimates, about 200 workers will be employed on site and the building will be able to accommodate 2200 workstations. The team that will develop it is made up of Park Associati, Milan, Faces and ESA.
