Sondors is a Californian startup that has gained some attention in the last few years by releasing a line of successful e-bikes. The company is now ready to jump into a different electric mobility market segment with the Sondors Metacycle, an electric motorbike with both exciting specs and a head-turning price tag.
The Metacycle reaches a top speed of 130km/h thanks to an 8 kW rear hub motor (i.e. mounted directly on the wheel) with a peak power of 14,5 kW, with a 130km range at average city speeds (between 40 and 50 km/h).
What's interesting about the Metacycle, though, is the futuristic design, with a frame built from a "unibody" aluminium piece that features a bold hole right where the tank of a gasoline motorbike would be.
The clever use of negative space, the metal finish, and the bike's general look give the Metacycle a strong cyberpunk feel, without the typical sky-high pricing that we've seen so far from competing brands for similar vehicles.
Sondors’ bike will be available for just 5000$ dollars in October. It will debut in the U.S. market first, but the company has already confirmed expansion plans to bring the bike over to Europe next.
