Wonderwood

Richard Yasmine explores the ancient Lebanese marquetry traditions for a wooden tableware collection that plays with rough finishes and fine craftsmanship. #MDW2017

Richard Yasmine, Wonderwood, 2017
Richard Yasmine mixes contemporary shapes with traditional Lebanese wood know-how for a collection of multipurpose products that can be used as tableware or as home decoration pieces.

The series of trays and bowls is crafted by Lebanese marqueters, a team of expert artisans that have inherited the traditional Levant techniques. Some pieces look unfinished, while others have a round clean edge finishing. Wonderwood is crafted by hand linishing, polishing, sandblasting and then treated with acid and a thin layer of wax, to preserve the feel of the product.
