Wakufuru

Combining ash wood and felst acoustic paneling, Johan Kauppi created a collection of modular tables and benches for Glimakra of Sweden, using advanced CNC milling.

Wakufuru is a family of tables, benches and islands designed by Swedish designer Johan Kauppi, who combines sound absorption with wooden furniture. The collection is produced by Glimakra of Sweden and is accomplished through advanced CNC milling.

Every piece of furniture hides an effective sound absorber integrated in the design. The open frame construction, conceals three different layers of sound absorbing materials, which all interact with an optimized air gap and the main frame volume. The whole family has identical corners, legs and top structure. Frames and leg parts are all CNC-milled out of massive ash wood, that makes them easy to combine together. The top shelf is in MDF with ash veneer, while the acoustic filling is made of felt, perforated board and polyether.
