The West Entrance is a mixed-use pavilion that has been recently completed by the Italian architecture firm Di Gregorio Associati, providing a new access point to Fiere di Parma.

The West Entrance, a mixed-use building that provides the Fiere di Parma district with a new access point, has been recently completed by the Italian architecture firm Di Gregorio Associati. The 4,000 sqm building initially hosted “Cibus è Italia”, an exhibition space dedicated to the Italian food tradition at the Milan Expo 2015.

“As an alternative to the material waste often witnessed in the aftermath of temporary global events, the pavilion will have an afterlife as the main West Gate of the Fiere di Parma district” states Francesco Di Gregorio. “We’ve opted for a flexible structural system that allows for adaptability, while providing the district with a new public infrastructure.”

The structural grid creates a mechanical framework while providing the façade with a pronao that can be activated in different ways through cultural events, performances, projections, etc. The pavilion’s abstract geometries are emphasized in light and shadow during the day, while at night artificial lights introduce a new level of complexity to the pure design.
