B&B Italia, celebrating its 50th anniversary, presents a film, a book and an exhibition about company’s history and contemporary identity. #MDW2016

At the heart of the events and activities planned for the B&B Italia 50th anniversary there is the deep acknowledgement of the company’s history and contemporary identity. This is developed through a film, a book, an exhibition and other initiatives over the year.

B&B Italia: Tabour — Tabour, Doshi Levien, B&B Italia

The documentary film B&B Italia. Poetry in the shape. When design meets industry by Didi Gnocchi was born through the synergy and teamwork of 3D Produzioni/Sky Arte HD. It is aimed at a wide audience, enthusiasts and professionals through a narrative language, with the story of people emerging from the history of the company. The documentary tells the story of the personal and entrepreneurial journey of B&B Italia’s founder Piero Ambrogio Busnelli, the company’s current situation and its objectives for the future, with contributions by world famous designers and architects such as Antonio Citterio, Renzo Piano, Mario Bellini, Gaetano Pesce, Patricia Urquiola, Pierluigi Cerri, Vincent Van Duysen, Jay Osgerby, Doshi Levien, Jeffrey Bernett, as well as Deyan Sudjic, Director of the Design Museum in London.

B&B Italia: Papilio Shell — Papilio Shell, Naoto Fukasawa, B&B Italia

The most exhaustive project for the 50th anniversary is the book “The long life of design in Italy. B&B Italia 50 years and beyond”. Conceived and edited by Stefano Casciani, published by Skira in an Italian and English version, the book tells the story of the past and present of the company as a coherent thought strategy and entrepreneurial action toward the future.
Products, places, interrelations between corporate culture and poetry in the shape sought by designers flow on the background of the world market complexity: a book for architects, professionals, scholars, collectors and design enthusiasts.

The perfect density, designed by Migliore + Servetto Architects

“B&B Italia / The perfect density”, the installation designed by Migliore+Servetto Architects, identifies the concept of density as the narrative fulcrum to celebrate the 50th anniversary of B&B Italia. “Density” is taken as a feature of B&B Italia’s identity in a broad sense: from the product physical and material nature to the conceptual one. At the centre of space 8 high vertical cages, pulsating and in movement, create a weave of bright beams that project into the room images and texts, tracing out a system of allusions and suggestions among the various elements.
