In 2014, Young Bird Plan received 1,091 entries submitted by 1,478 contestants from 201 colleges, universities and 220 design firms at home and abroad. Between 18th and 20th 2014, nine mentors gathered in Shekou and selected top 50 works after rounds of review. Then top 9 works were selected based on the natural conditions and cultural characteristics of the Prince Bay as well as the four selected locations. Afterwards, the mentors helped the finalists update their works one-to-one.
At the final stage, five groups of works with the highest scores stood out after prudent reviews by six judges with diverse backgrounds in different segments (including Yang Tianping, Stefano Boeri, Didier Fiuza Faustino, Nadim Karam, Angelo Azzolina and Yu Bing).
The top five works have recently been implemented and built in Shekou and open to the public, coinciding with the opening of the Shenzhen’s 2015 By-City Biennale of Urbanisme-Architecture.
