Stadttheater Solothurn

Davide Groppi enlightens the oldest Swiss baroque theater with Nulla lamp, an “invisible” project born form the research into a “light without a source”.

How to light a theater?

For the oldest baroque theater in Switzerland, recently refurbished by Phalt Architekten, Davide Groppi has chosen Nulla lamp, so that the authentic nature of its historical beauty is left intact.

Nulla lamp, winner of the Compasso d’Oro ADI, 2014 is a work on subtraction in which the light is investigated and presented in its pure physical aspect. The research into a “light without a source” drove Davide Groppi to consider the realization of a project which is invisible, magic and illusive. A very simple idea: a hole in the ceiling, a 18 mm hole only, a special optical system and the led technology make a wonderful light on the surface.
