Bakery Studio: 1/3, 2/3, 3/3

Whilst medals usually differentiate between 1st, 2nd and 3rd place by material and color, Bakery Studio reflects upon the representation through shapes.

Medals today differentiate between 1st, 2nd and 3rd place by material and color.

The material dedicated to the 1st place is gold, a chemical element which does not oxygenate or corrode and always stays shiny. After the gold comes the silver, which is dedicated to the 2nd place. The silver although being an element as well, has the tendency to oxygenate and needs constant polishing maintenance. And to the third place the dedicated material is the bronze, an alloy cross breeded from different materials and the lowest class of the 3 material.

In this project Gilli Kuchik and Ran Amitai from Bakery Studio wanted to evaluate the representation of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place through shapes rather than color or material. The final result are five different conceptual medals.

The project was commissioned for “Award Winning: Exhibition” wihch asked 30 Israeli designers and artists to visually respond to the meaning of a prize.
