A Moment in Time

#9 The installation designed by OEO Studio to present Japan Handmade’s new product launches for Salone 2015 is a modern interpretation of the traditional Japanese ritual space. #salone2015

For Salone del Mobile 2015, Japan Handmade, a collective of six crafts companies from Kyoto, Japan, present a A Moment in Time, an installation show-casing a new collection of products at the Tatras showroom.

The idea behind the crafts installation – designed by Copenhagen-based OEO Studio – is to curate a sacred space dedicated to reading, the Japanese tea ceremony and meditation as well as socialising with friends and family.

The result is a modern interpretation of the traditional Japanese ritual space, touching on wabisabi (the beauty of imperfection) and the tactile sensibilities of Zen. The installation – crafted using a simple and refined metal structure complemented by solid wood flooring in heart oak and oak shelving from Dinesen – presents new objects made by the six crafts companies – the majority of which have been designed by OEO Studio. These objects come in a mix of materials, such as wood, ceramics, textile, bamboo and metal.
