Japanese design studio Nendo has announced an upcoming installation at the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A), to take place during the London Design Festival in September 2012. Titled Mimicry Chairs, the installation will present a number of "transparent" punched metal chairs in several locations across the museum.

The V&A is home to more than four million items of historical and contemporary art and design. The Mimicry Chairs seek to stimulate visitors to discover and appreciate the collection in a different ways, and will be placed at the entrance and in other ten locations across the museum.

For each location, Nendo has modified the chair to mimic its surroundings, reflecting the particular space and objects around it. "We hoped that visitors might discover a new side to the museum's appeal by sitting on different chairs to observe, absorb and appreciate its collection," state the designers.
