The MakerLab Residency will take place at
Superground, and invite representatives from different
backgrounds to engage in dialogue, discussion and shared action with
the MakerLab community and other local actors. Through a culture of
collaboration (Open Source, Start Up, Makers, Hackers, Co-Working,
Creative Action, Co-Creators, and Critical Engineers) the residency will explore each other's worlds, to understand the mutual value and learning to be gained
and to provoke and stimulate new ideas and thinking about issues
affecting the local environment and the world beyond.
Value and new ideas are increasingly created outside of traditional
business institutions. Networks are able to respond quickly to new
market demands. Co-working and collaboration spaces provide such
networks with real world infrastructure, attracting individuals from a
range of disciplines, and providing an ideal incubation space with tools
and resources to grow new businesses and ideas. MakerLab invites everyone to come
and experience the many different aspects and benefits of co-working, by directly
engaging in acts of discussion and actions in their residency space. The residency will be followed by a public intervention
during the Salone del Mobile, at Cascina Cuccagna, as part of the Public
Design Festival organized by esterni. Together with visitors and the
passers-by MakerLab will engage in actions, positive provocations, discussions and
dialogues aimed to re-shape the public space and the way the public interacts in it.
Born during Berlin's 2010 DMY Design Festival, MakerLab is a community promoting collaboration culture. In little more than a year, it has already appeared at Milan's Public Design Festival, Hamburg's GoodGoods, Fusion Festival and Warsaw's Creative Commons summit.
At its core are the ideas which also permeate Autoprogettazione 2.0
, the global call for ideas launched by Domus with FabLab Torino, the results of which will be presented during the Salone del Mobile 2012.
