Take a seat by Andreas Saxer

Four chairs modified by Andreas Saxer stand for a tradition that is almost lost in Central Europe

Horgen Glarus, a famous wooden chair manufacurer produces beside many other models the Moser-Chair with the traditional Jonc- braid. These 4 chairs modified by Andreas Saxer stand for a tradition that is almost lost in Central Europe. The burned chairs refeer to old patterns of braid. The typical "tessiner braid", the "fence braid" and the "matt braid" complete the series of the collection.
Material: Beech, burned.

The Take a seat project was started by Aekae at the café/bar Z am Park in Zurich in April 2009 as part of the interior concept. Besides serving drinks and food, the venue was conceived as a platform for contemporary design. Five artists and designers at a time, are asked to each re-work four of the classic Horgenglarus bistro chairs in their own way. The chairs can be used and compared at the café during 4-5 months, after which they are auctioned, giving room to new reworked chairs. As a playful element of the interior design, they confront a mixed crowd of visitors with contemporary design in a relaxed environment. The designers add their personal style to the chair, and make their way of thinking and designing visible for the audience.

The selected Classic 1-380 Chair by Horgenglarus is an ideal base for Take a seat. it was designed almost a century ago, and it's understated, yet elegant form is functionally and ecologically still up to date.
