Domus India, February 2017
The features in the February 2017 edition of Domus India are fundamentally directed towards critiques and readings of the ‘architectural’ which are pursued in the works of artists, curatorial adventures, as well as the travels of the cultural theorists.

The photographic, the mode of the painting, and that of film – the three classic mediums of expression and representation deal here with the architectural – the shadows and geometries in tribal landscapes, in human faces and dresses; the blurring image as it zooms in and out of scales and spaces of varying levels of privacy and intimacy; or the hermit’s hut and forest of cooks painted with meticulous details of construction materials as much as that of facial gestures. Shadows and actors caught in frames, portraits of people, places, and actions, the quick capture of studied moments as well as meditated brushstrokes produce the ‘architectural’ – they capture the sense and sensibility of architecture.

Two projects from Abin Design Studio focus on how the ornamental is carried out, and sits in some kind of discussion with the more modern language of the building plan and formal expression. The project of Outre House by Anagram Architects manifests as part of a series of explorations into the contemporary urban Indian home. The cover of the magazine is, once again, the result of a collaboration with Mumbai-based ASDS Studios.
